As a Junior Bridge Engineer, you’ll support the Senior Bridge Engineers in the design and construction of bridge rehabilitation and new construction projects. You’ll assist with consultant coordination, site inspections, and design reviews – ensuring technically sound, cost‑effective solutions. This entry‑level role is designed as a launchpad for your engineering career, offering progressive responsibility and a clear path toward senior roles within the department.

Your key responsibilities include

  • Supporting project scoping, consultant selection, and coordination for bridge construction and rehabilitation projects.
  • Assisting with engineering design reviews and ensuring construction aligns with department standards and specifications.
  • Conducting site inspections and monitoring progress to ensure safety, quality, and contract compliance.
  • Helping resolve technical and stakeholder issues during construction to keep projects moving forward.
  • Reviewing consultant submissions, permits, and design documents to ensure quality, value, and constructability.
  • Tracking costs, schedules, and changes to ensure projects stay on time and within budget.
  • Contributing to long‑term bridge capital and maintenance planning.
  • Collaborating with department staff, consultants, and stakeholders to align project outcomes with department goals.
  • Gaining exposure to other sections – Infrastructure, Construction, and Operations – to develop a well‑rounded understanding of regional transportation delivery.
