Everforth ECS is seeking a Junior Linux Systems Engineer to work out of our Fairfax, VA and/or Springfield, VA office supporting our government customer.
Everforth ECS is seeking a Junior Linux Systems Engineer with hands-on Red Hat experience and a foundational understanding of cybersecurity to support geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) programs within the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
In this role, you will help build, integrate, and sustain Linux-based systems that process and analyze large-scale geospatial and sensor data. You'll work closely with engineers, developers, and analysts to ensure systems are performant, secure, and mission-ready. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers to gain experience with data-intensive pipelines, modern infrastructure, and classified mission systems.
Responsibilities
- To be on-site, either at HQ or customer sites 5-days a week when necessary
- Build, configure, and troubleshoot RHEL-based systems supporting geospatial data processing and analytics
- Support integration of systems handling large-scale GEOINT datasets, imagery, and sensor-derived data
- Monitor and optimize system performance for data-intensive processing pipelines and storage systems
- Apply STIGs and security hardening to Linux systems in accordance with IC and NGA standards
- Analyze system logs and metrics to troubleshoot performance, data flow, and system issues
- Assist with deployment and support of containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Support data workflows including ingest, processing, storage, and dissemination
- Document system configurations, discrepancies, and remediation efforts
- Collaborate with software developers and analysts to ensure systems meet mission and data requirements
- Participate in system testing, deployment, and operational sustainment in classified environments
- Conduct cyclical inventory and maintain accountability of program hardware
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on, internship, or military technical experience)
- Must have an existing and active TS/SCI security clearance, and sit for a Counter-Intelligence (CI) Poly
- The ability and willingness to travel CONUS and OCONUS
- Active DoD IAT/IAM II 8140 Certification (SEC+, CISSP, CySA+ etc)
- 1-3 years of experience working with Linux systems, preferably RHEL/CentOS
- Strong familiarity with the Linux command line, system administration, and troubleshooting
- Basic experience with system monitoring, log analysis, and performance tuning
- Foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles (system hardening, patching, least privilege)
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, data transfer concepts)
- Ability to work in a data-driven, mission-focused environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lift equipment weighing 50+ pounds in equipment
