InterSystems

About the role

About the Role

You have studied Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Business Informatics, Data Science, or a comparable technical field? Or you come from software development, software architecture, technical consulting, data engineering, or another technology-driven role and want to use your experience in a meaningful environment?

Then this role is exciting for you.

The healthcare sector faces some of the most complex and important data challenges of our time: patient data is spread across many different systems, medical processes need to be digitized securely, information must be available at the right time and place — and modern AI solutions only function meaningfully if the underlying data is complete, reliable, secure, and interoperable.

This is exactly where InterSystems works.

Our technologies help healthcare organizations worldwide connect and utilize health data to develop modern digital solutions.

As a Sales Engineer, you will learn how such platforms work — technically, functionally, and in collaboration with customers.

Your Role

This is not a classic sales role. It is a technical role with customer interaction — for people who understand and can explain technology, and want to translate it into meaningful solutions together with customers.

You won't start as a finished healthcare interoperability expert. We don't expect that.

What's important is that you bring technical fundamentals, curiosity, strong communication skills, and a genuine willingness to learn. Depending on your experience, you will start with varying levels of responsibility — it's not crucial whether you already know healthcare standards, but whether you have the technical foundation and the motivation to immerse yourself in this environment.

In this role, you will work on topics such as:

  • Healthcare data platforms and interoperability
  • APIs, databases, data models, and integration architectures
  • HL7, FHIR, IHE, and other healthcare standards
  • InterSystems IRIS for Health and HealthShare
  • Analytics, Data Fabric, Generative AI, RAG, and Agentic AI in the healthcare context
  • Product demos, technical analyses, solution sketches, and proof-of-concepts
  • Customer discussions with technical teams, business departments, and management

You will stay close to technology: You will analyze technical requirements, work with APIs, data models, and integration scenarios, and develop demonstrators, solution sketches, and proof-of-concepts together with experienced colleagues.

In doing so, you won't just learn technology. You will learn how technology can change care, processes, and decisions in healthcare.

Your Start and Development

You will grow into the role step by step. Initially, the focus will be on understanding our products, typical healthcare use cases, our customers, and the way sales engineering works.

You will be accompanied by experienced colleagues, help prepare demos and workshops, support technical research, and gradually immerse yourself in questions related to healthcare data, integration, APIs, analytics, and AI.

As your experience grows, you will gradually take on your own topics — for example, demo components, technical analyses, initial solution ideas, contributions to proof-of-concepts, or answering specific customer questions together with the team.

This is not a classic entry-level position – but an opportunity to take on responsibility early on and grow quickly.

Healthcare interoperability, data platforms, and AI are challenging topics. That's precisely what makes them exciting.

You don't have to know everything on day one. What matters is that you are curious, learn independently, ask questions, and are eager to immerse yourself in a complex and fascinating environment. In the long term, you will develop professionally and personally towards a Senior Sales Engineer role with increasing technical and customer-facing responsibility.

What You Bring

We are not looking for finished healthcare IT experts.

We are looking for people with a technical foundation, quick comprehension, and the desire to immerse themselves in a demanding environment.

You are a good fit for us if you:

  • have completed a degree in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Business Informatics, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a comparable field
  • or have initial professional experience in software development, software architecture, technical consulting, data engineering, or healthcare IT
  • have good fundamentals in software development, databases, APIs, or distributed systems
  • have first experience with at least one programming language, e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, or a comparable language
  • understand SQL or relational databases fundamentally
  • enjoy analyzing technical problems and developing solutions
  • can explain complex topics understandably
  • are curious about healthcare, data, interoperability, cloud, and AI
  • enjoy working with people and want to explain technology, not just build it
  • can use German and English confidently
  • possess self-motivation, joy in learning, and a sense of responsibility

Prior knowledge of HL7, FHIR, IHE, or healthcare integration is not required. You will learn these topics with us.

Why InterSystems?

At InterSystems, you will work on technologies used in critical areas — especially in healthcare.

You can expect:

  • a technically demanding and meaningful environment
  • experienced colleagues from whom you can learn
  • customer projects with real societal benefit
  • modern topics like Healthcare Data Platforms, Cloud, AI, and Interoperability
  • the opportunity to combine technical depth and communication
  • an environment where initiative, willingness to learn, and long-term development are important
