Junior Tax Compliance Officer

Role Overview

The Junior Tax Compliance Officer will be responsible for assisting with the full function of monthly and periodic tax compliance for a portfolio of clients. This includes VAT, PAYE, and income tax submissions, ensuring all statutory deadlines are met and compliance standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation and submission of VAT returns via SARS eFiling
• Monthly PAYE / UIF / SDL returns and reconciliations
• Assisting with provisional and annual income tax returns (individuals and companies)
• Performing tax calculations and reconciliations
• Preparing and maintaining working papers using CaseWare
• Maintaining accurate tax records and supporting documentation
• Ensuring compliance with South African tax legislation and deadlines
• Liaising with the South African Revenue Service on client queries and resolving tax-related issues
• Working on accounting systems, including Pastel Accounting
• Assisting with general tax and accounting administration

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field
• 1–2 years’ experience in a tax or accounting environment (advantageous)
• Working knowledge of SARS eFiling
• Experience with Pastel Accounting and/or CaseWare
• Basic understanding of VAT, PAYE, and income tax processes

Advantageous

• Experience working with CaseWare for compiling financial statements
• Exposure to SME client portfolios
• Experience dealing directly with South African Revenue Service queries
