Laboratory Analyst

A research institution in George, Western Cape is hiring a Laboratory Analyst to support ongoing research projects. You will prepare reagents and culture media, conduct experiments following established protocols, maintain laboratory notebooks, and contribute to data analysis and report writing. A systematic approach and eagerness to learn are important.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice, Good Manufacturing Practice, and ISO 17025 accreditation standards.
• Investigate out-of-specification and out-of-trend results, performing root cause analysis and documenting findings thoroughly.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain complex analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-OES, and spectrophotometers.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for new products or tests, ensuring methods are robust and reproducible.
• Prepare and analyse samples using a range of laboratory techniques including wet chemistry, chromatography, and spectroscopy.

Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document procedures and present findings clearly.
• Thorough understanding of laboratory quality systems such as ISO 17025 and the principles of Good Laboratory Practice.
• A national diploma or bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, food science, biomedical science, or a related scientific discipline.
• Proficiency in laboratory information management systems and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
• The ability to work methodically and prioritise tasks in a high-volume laboratory environment while maintaining quality.
• A minimum of one to three years of experience working in an analytical or testing laboratory environment.
• Hands-on experience with analytical techniques and instruments relevant to the specific industry sector.
