About the role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Lead Automotive Systems Integration Engineer to join their pioneering research and development center located in the heart of Sandton, Gauteng, ZA . This critical role will focus on the seamless integration of complex automotive systems, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and user experience in next-generation vehicles. You will lead a team of talented engineers in architecting, developing, and validating integrated vehicle architectures, encompassing powertrain, chassis, body electronics, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in automotive engineering principles, extensive experience with systems engineering methodologies, and a proven track record of successfully bringing complex automotive projects to market. This position requires exceptional leadership qualities, strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Responsibilities: Lead the integration of diverse automotive subsystems, including powertrain, electrical, chassis, and ADAS. Develop and maintain system architecture specifications and integration plans. Define system requirements, interfaces, and validation strategies for integrated vehicle functions. Oversee the design, development, and testing of vehicle control units and software. Collaborate with component suppliers and internal engineering teams to resolve integration issues. Conduct system-level performance analysis, simulation, and validation activities. Ensure compliance with automotive safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262) and industry best practices. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their technical development and team cohesion. Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets related to systems integration. Present technical findings and project status to senior management and stakeholders. Qualifications: Master's or Ph.D. in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in automotive systems development and integration. Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing complex automotive projects. In-depth knowledge of automotive networks (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and diagnostic protocols. Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and tools (e.g., SysML, AUTOSAR). Experience with simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. Familiarity with functional safety standards and cybersecurity principles in automotive applications. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative R&D environment.
