Our client, a prestigious architectural firm, is seeking an accomplished Lead Building Systems Architect to spearhead the design and integration of complex building systems for innovative projects. This position is based in our Burnaby, British Columbia, CA office and requires a hands-on approach to project delivery.

You will be responsible for leading architectural design efforts, ensuring that building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural elements are harmoniously integrated and meet stringent performance, sustainability, and code compliance standards. Your role will involve collaborating closely with structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and other specialists to develop cohesive and efficient building designs. Key responsibilities include developing schematic designs, creating detailed construction documents, performing site reviews, and resolving design challenges throughout the project lifecycle. You will also guide and mentor junior architects and designers, fostering a culture of design excellence and technical proficiency.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in complex building projects, a deep understanding of building codes and regulations (local and national), and proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp). A commitment to sustainable design principles and experience with green building certifications (LEED) is highly desirable. This role demands excellent project management skills, the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, and superior communication and client-facing abilities. You will be at the forefront of creating architecturally significant and functionally superior buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design process for building systems on various project types.
  • Develop innovative and practical design solutions for integrated building systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Coordinate design efforts with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Prepare high-quality design documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports.

Qualifications

  • Professional Architect license in British Columbia.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in architectural design, with a focus on building systems integration.
  • Demonstrated experience leading design teams on significant projects.
  • Expertise in Revit and other relevant architectural software.
  • Strong knowledge of building science, materials, and construction methods.
  • Familiarity with LEED accreditation and sustainable design strategies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects from concept to completion.
