Job Summary For Lead Data Architect
Summary Of Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide data architecture strategy for the OBIS Modernization Project.
- Oversee design and maintenance of operational data stores, data warehouses, and data marts.
- Maintain and enhance logical and physical data models; manage source-to-target data mappings.
- Direct, mentor, and allocate resources among a team of Data Architects and technical staff.
- Establish and enforce data modeling standards, governance practices, and documentation consistency.
- Define and implement metadata standards, naming conventions, data lineage, and modeling principles.
- Lead enterprise data quality and compliance initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering, analytics, business leaders, solution architects, and program managers to design scalable, cloud-based data platforms.
- Guide ETL optimization, data loading, and recovery strategies, especially within Azure cloud environments.
- Evaluate emerging technologies for modernization and scalability.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation, and review/approve data models, mappings, and migration strategies.
- Ensure regulatory and governance compliance (including CJI, HIPAA, PII if possible).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 7+ years managing large-scale enterprise database systems and technical teams.
- Extensive experience in data modeling, cloud data ecosystems, and modern data engineering.
- 7+ years of ETL/data engineering experience.
- 3+ years hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, and Purview.
- Proficiency in Spark, Python, Scala, and advanced SQL development/optimization.
- Experience with data governance, security protocols, and Azure RBAC.
- Ability to build scalable and resilient ETL architectures.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS Data Warehouse, S3, and DataSync.
- Knowledge of CJI, HIPAA, and PII compliance standards.
- Microsoft certifications (Azure Data Engineer, Solutions Architect, Fundamentals) and Databricks Data Engineer Associate certification preferred.
Work Environment
- Fully onsite at Carlton Building, 501/315 South Calhoun Street, Tallahassee, FL.
- Level II background check and security awareness training required.
