As a Lead Data Protection Engineer, you will play a vital role in enhancing our data protection capabilities, ensuring that the Coinbase ecosystem is resilient against advanced security threats. You will be tasked with developing and executing a long-term strategy that merges robust security with the rapid pace of a decentralized tech environment. Your expertise in LLMs and agentic AI will help shape the future of our Data Loss Prevention operations.
Responsibilities
- Leading and expanding data loss prevention capabilities to safeguard the Coinbase ecosystem against data security threats.
- Executing a long-term strategy for the Data Loss Prevention program to strengthen our security posture.
- Evaluating and directing complex designs and controls across a decentralized tech environment while promoting security.
- Implementing and deploying DLP tools in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Improving operational efficiency in DLP Engineering & Operations through automation and AI.
- Creating a culture of excellence by mentoring team members and sharing knowledge.
- Working with risk teams to measure control effectiveness and adapt to changing regulations.
What we are looking for
- Proven experience in security engineering focused on data protection with measurable results.
- A strong technical background for solving operational issues with engineering solutions.
- Experience with DLP controls across multiple operating systems.
- Competency in creating scalable processes and leveraging AI/ML for increased efficiency.
- Strong discretion and thoughtfulness while collaborating cross-functionally.
- A solid understanding of insider threats and the regulatory landscape for sensitive data.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.

- Experience utilizing generative AI tools in daily workflows and a commitment to continuous learning.
Preferred qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in security engineering with a focus on enterprise-wide DLP programs.
- A background in addressing operational challenges through engineering and automation.
- Experience in Web3 and crypto-related organizations or traditional financial institutions.
Salary Information
Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position ranges from $180,370 to $212,200. Total compensation may also include equity, bonuses, and benefits.
