Our client, a prominent industrial manufacturing facility, is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Maintenance Engineer to oversee and manage all electrical maintenance operations in Welkom, Free State, ZA. This senior role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all electrical systems and equipment within the plant. You will lead a team of skilled technicians, develop preventative maintenance strategies, troubleshoot complex electrical issues, and ensure compliance with all relevant safety and electrical codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of electrical maintenance technicians, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance programs for all electrical equipment, including motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, control systems, and power distribution networks.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults and breakdowns efficiently, minimizing downtime and production losses.
- Oversee the installation, modification, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all South African electrical regulations, safety standards (e.g., OHSA), and company policies.
- Manage spare parts inventory for electrical components and equipment.
- Develop and maintain detailed maintenance records, reports, and documentation.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and other departments to support operational goals and projects.
- Identify opportunities for electrical system upgrades and efficiency improvements.
- Participate in safety audits and implement corrective actions.
- Manage external contractors and service providers for specialized electrical work.
Qualifications
- B.Eng or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance.
- At least 3 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng / Pr. Tech. Eng) is a strong advantage.
- Extensive knowledge of industrial electrical systems, PLCs, and SCADA.
- Proven experience with preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and regulations.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage critical situations.
- Experience in manufacturing or mining environments preferred.
