Job Description
The Lead Engineer for AI Red Team Operations takes charge of offensive security initiatives focused on AI and machine learning systems, platforms, and traditional enterprise attack surfaces. This role encompasses the design, execution, and reporting of AI-centered red team operations, threat emulation exercises targeting AI models, data workflows, applications, and supporting environments. As a senior technical authority, you will partner with various teams to identify and address AI-related risks, enhancing security maturity through repeatable testing methodologies, automation, and advanced custom tooling.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead AI Red Team operations with a focus on adversarial testing of:
- Foundation and custom models (including LLMs, vision, and speech systems)
- Model deployment environments (APIs, plugins, agents, and RAG pipelines)
- Training, evaluation, and inference pipelines
- Data ingestion, labeling, and governance controls
- Design and execute AI-specific threat emulations aligned with real-world adversaries and attack techniques (e.g., prompt injection, data poisoning, model inversion, and supply chain risks).
- Develop and maintain custom AI red team tools, frameworks, and automated solutions to enhance testing efficiency.
- Conduct security research into evolving AI attack techniques and vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with detection, engineering, and governance teams to support validation activities.
- Contribute to the development of AI security standards and testing methodologies.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to red team engineers.
Required Skills/Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- At least eight years of relevant experience.
- Thorough understanding of information security systems, policies, and procedures.
- Strong communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate and influence others.
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Hands-on experience with testing or securing AI/ML systems, including LLMs.
- Knowledge of AI threat models and attack techniques such as prompt injection and training data poisoning.
- Familiarity with AI platforms and tools (e.g., APIs, orchestration frameworks).
- Significant red team experience, including adversary emulation.
- Expertise in developing proof-of-concept exploits and offensive tools.
- Strong understanding of red team and AI offensive techniques.
- Experience overcoming security controls like EDR, API protections, and guardrails.
- Experience with cloud and container environments.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Go, C/C++, or Shell.
- Able to translate research findings into operational tools.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Work Location
This position requires working from a U.S. Bank location three or more days per week.

The salary range for this position is $133,365.00 - $156,900.00, adjusted based on location. U.S. Bank also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive programs and a 401(k) contribution.
