About the role
Our client, a renowned manufacturer of innovative industrial equipment, is seeking an experienced Lead Industrial Design Engineer to join their dynamic team. This hybrid role, based in Yola, Adamawa, NG , requires a visionary engineer with a passion for product innovation and a strong understanding of manufacturing processes. You will lead the design and development of new industrial products, ensuring they are functional, aesthetically pleasing, cost-effective, and meet market demands. This involves working closely with product development, marketing, and manufacturing teams to bring concepts from ideation to production.
Key responsibilities include conceptualizing and sketching new product designs, developing detailed 3D models and prototypes using CAD software. You will conduct feasibility studies, material selection, and cost analysis for new product developments. Collaborating with mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate design elements with functional requirements is crucial. You will also oversee the testing and validation of prototypes, refining designs based on feedback and performance data. Ensuring that designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental considerations is paramount. Leading and mentoring a team of junior industrial designers and engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a collaborative design environment, will be a significant part of the role.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio showcasing a range of successful industrial design projects. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) and familiarity with prototyping technologies (e.g., 3D printing) are essential. A deep understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC machining, etc.), and ergonomics is required. Excellent conceptual thinking, problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for detail are vital. Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills are necessary for guiding the design team and presenting concepts to stakeholders. Experience with user-centered design principles and market research is highly desirable.
Qualifications must include a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree in Industrial Design is a significant plus. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in industrial design and product development, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior role, is required. Experience in the industrial equipment manufacturing sector within Nigeria is advantageous.
