About the role

Our client, a renowned creative studio specializing in immersive and experiential design, is seeking a highly imaginative and technically proficient Lead Lighting Designer. This role offers a flexible remote working arrangement, allowing you to bring your creative vision to life from your own studio. You will be responsible for conceptualizing and executing innovative lighting designs for a variety of projects, including themed attractions, museum exhibits, interactive installations, and live events. The ideal candidate will possess a strong artistic sensibility, a deep understanding of lighting technology, and the ability to translate creative briefs into compelling visual experiences. Your expertise will be crucial in shaping the mood, atmosphere, and narrative of our projects.

Responsibilities: Develop creative concepts and detailed lighting designs for experiential projects, ensuring alignment with project themes and client requirements. Select appropriate lighting fixtures, control systems, and technologies to achieve desired aesthetic and functional outcomes. Create lighting plots, cue lists, and other technical documentation for project implementation. Collaborate closely with directors, scenic designers, AV specialists, and other creative team members to integrate lighting seamlessly into the overall design. Oversee the programming and commissioning of lighting systems, working with technicians and operators. Conduct site visits and surveys (potentially remote or in-person as needed) to assess site conditions and inform design decisions. Manage project budgets and schedules related to lighting design and execution. Stay abreast of emerging lighting technologies, trends, and best practices in the entertainment and experiential design industries. Troubleshoot and resolve lighting-related issues during installation and operation. Mentor junior lighting designers and provide technical guidance. Present design concepts and proposals effectively to clients and stakeholders. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Theatre Design, Lighting Design, Fine Arts, Architecture, or a related field. Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in lighting design, with a significant focus on experiential, entertainment, or themed environments. Demonstrated portfolio showcasing innovative and impactful lighting designs for diverse projects. Proficiency with lighting design software (e.g., Vectorworks, Capture, AutoCAD) and lighting control systems (e.g., ETC Eos, GrandMA). Strong understanding of color theory, light properties, and their psychological impact. Excellent artistic vision, creativity, and attention to detail. Strong technical understanding of lighting equipment, power distribution, and control protocols. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment. Experience in the Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA region is not a prerequisite, as this role is fully remote.
