About the role

Position Overview

As Lead MEP Assurance Engineer you will head our mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) discipline within an independent third-party assurance and monitoring consultancy. You’ll guide technical reviews, on-site inspections, commissioning witness tests and reporting—ensuring clients’ projects meet specified performance, code, sustainability and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a team of MEP engineers and commissioning specialists.
  • Develop and enforce standardized QA/QC and assurance monitoring procedures.

Independent Design Review

  • Review MEP design drawings, specifications and calculations for compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, CIBSE, local regulations).
  • Assess energy-performance and sustainability goals (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, WELL).
  • Identify potential design conflicts, performance risks and cost-optimization opportunities.

Site Inspections & Commissioning Oversight

  • Plan and conduct periodic site visits to verify installations against approved design and performance criteria.
  • Witness factory testing, equipment start-up and commissioning of HVAC, electrical distribution, lighting, fire-protection and plumbing systems.
  • Document non-conformances; work with contractors/consultants to secure timely corrective actions.

Reporting & Client Interface

  • Prepare clear, concise assurance reports, punch-lists and technical memoranda.
  • Present findings and recommendations to clients, project teams and regulatory bodies.
  • Act as the client’s independent representative during hand-over, performance testing and final acceptance.

Project Management

  • Develop scopes of work, staffing plans and schedules for MEP assurance services.
  • Monitor budgets, track deliverables and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Chartered/registered engineer (PE, CEng,COREN, NSE or equivalent).

Experience

  • 10+ years of hands-on MEP design, installation and commissioning experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in third-party assurance, QA/QC or commissioning leadership roles.

Technical Skills

  • Deep knowledge of international and local codes and standards.
  • Proven track record with sustainable building performance frameworks (e.g., LEED, BREEAM).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit/BIM and Microsoft Office.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong report-writing ability.
  • Leadership mindset with demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and acute attention to detail.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in specialized sectors such as industrial facilities generally.
  • Familiarity with performance contracting, energy modeling tools and advanced building automation systems.
  • Professional certification in commissioning (CxA), energy auditing or quality management (e.g., ISO 9001).
