Position Description & Qualifications
Join our dynamic team at Serco, supporting the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division's cutting-edge PC-based Open-architecture Reconfigurable Training System (PORTS) program. We are seeking a skilled Lead Principal Engineer to spearhead the design and development of state-of-the-art simulation-based training systems for the US Navy. This position requires obtaining, transferring, and maintaining a Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance post-employment.
As a key member of our team, you will:
- Lead with integrity, demonstrating strong work ethics, technical excellence, and professionalism in daily operations and client interactions.
- Design and maintain engaging Instructor and Student graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that enhance usability and user workflow.
- Enhance backend simulation and modeling software to drive effective scenario-based training outcomes.
- Establish and manage interfaces between user-facing front-end components and backend simulation services.
- Collaborate with software, systems, and test teams to support the generation and review of software requirements and design documents.
- Engage in software development, integration, debugging, and optimization, utilizing C++ and C# within the Windows platform.
- Conduct peer code reviews, champion sound software engineering practices, and uphold standards for maintainability.
- Implement industry standards, adopt emerging technologies, and apply lessons learned to foster continuous improvement.
To excel in this position, you should possess:
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoW Secret security clearance post-employment.
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of five (5) years of software development experience, particularly in C++ and C#.
- A solid grasp of GUI design principles and user interface development.
- Experience in a .NET environment, with extensive knowledge of Visual Studio.
- Experience in authoring engineering documentation, including Requirements and Design Documents, Test Plans, Test Procedures, and User Guides.
- The ability to travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Over 5 years of software development experience in C++ and C#.
- Exposure to modeling and simulation systems, particularly in training or mission rehearsal contexts.
- Familiarity with U.S. Navy command and control, sensor, or weapon systems.
- Experience in virtual machines and virtualized environments.
- Knowledge of Software Configuration Management (SCM) tools and disciplined development processes.
- Understanding of open architecture concepts and modular design.
- Experience in real-time and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with networking middleware technologies such as CORBA, RTI DDS, DIS, and HLA.
- Exposure to Enterprise Architecture concepts.
- Experience with compliance related to the DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF).
- An understanding of Navy simulators and the Navy training pipeline.
