The Role
We are seeking a Lead Project Engineer at our Calgary, Alberta location to lead the delivery of thermal remediation projects and oversee the development of a team of Engineers-in-Training (EITs).
The Lead Project Engineer is responsible for technical execution, project performance, and team leadership across multiple active projects, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
While VIYA offers a range of remediation approaches, this role is primarily focused on in situ thermal remediation system design, field execution, and performance optimization, with integration of biological and chemical methods where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering and execution of in situ and ex situ thermal remediation projects, including system design, implementation, and performance optimization.
- Own project delivery across project scope, schedule, budget, and quality, including cost control and forecasting.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical direction to a team of EITs, supporting their development and performance.
- Translate engineering designs into practical, field-ready execution plans.
- Coordinate with field operations, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Identify project risks and implement timely, effective corrective actions.
- Allocate and manage resources across projects to support efficient utilization and delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement and standardization in project execution, documentation, and reporting.
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, field operations, procurement) to support integrated project delivery.
- Act as a senior point of contact for clients, supporting project communication and issue resolution.
- Ensure alignment with safety, regulatory, and quality requirements across all project activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; P.Eng. (or eligibility preferred).
- Minimum five years of experience in project engineering or project management within remediation, environmental, or industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated experience with thermal remediation systems and field-based project execution.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop Engineers-in-Training (EITs).
- Track record of delivering projects with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and client outcomes.
- Strong understanding of:
- Project planning, scheduling, and cost control / forecasting.
- Risk identification and mitigation.
- Thermal system performance and field implementation.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic environment.
- Experience coordinating contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Solid understanding of safety practices, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, execution-focused environment.
- Willingness to travel to project sites in primarily North American (15%–30%).
