About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly organized Lead Project Manager to oversee large-scale construction projects in the Welkom, Free State, ZA region. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex construction projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will be responsible for all phases of the project lifecycle, from planning and initiation through execution, monitoring, control, and closure. This includes managing project scope, resources, risks, stakeholders, and ensuring effective communication across all project teams and external parties. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a comprehensive understanding of construction methodologies, building codes, and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities include: Developing detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Managing and coordinating all aspects of construction projects from conception to completion. Overseeing site operations, ensuring adherence to project schedules and quality standards. Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks, developing contingency plans. Managing project budgets, tracking expenses, and implementing cost-control measures. Leading and motivating project teams, including engineers, architects, contractors, and tradespeople. Ensuring compliance with all relevant building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards. Facilitating effective communication among project stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies. Procuring necessary materials and equipment, managing vendor relationships. Resolving site conflicts and technical challenges in a timely and efficient manner. The successful applicant will hold a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Professional certification such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or an equivalent is highly desirable. A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in construction project management, with a significant portion managing large-scale projects, is required. Proven experience in contract negotiation, resource management, and risk assessment is essential. Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and industry best practices is crucial. Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are paramount for success in this role. This hybrid position involves both on-site project supervision and office-based planning and administration, offering a balanced approach to project leadership.
