The Technical Lead Systems Security Engineer operates primarily as a Systems Engineer with specialized expertise in safeguarding classified National Security information. The ideal candidate will combine Systems Engineering experience with proficiency in Information Assurance, Security, and Cryptography, having contributed to NSA-approved products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate security and cryptography expertise throughout the Systems Engineering lifecycle to develop and certify National Security systems on schedule and within budget, minimizing residual risk.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and test of high-assurance security solutions for Defense and Intelligence community customers.
  • Craft Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), analyze security requirements, verify security features, and support security architecture and test planning.
  • Engage in NSA certification procedures, secure networking integration, and embedded platform security for Type-1 cryptographic communication systems.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Systems Lead in Information Assurance, Security, and Cryptography.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Capacity to obtain and maintain US Security Clearances.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; Master’s degree is highly desirable.
  • Active DoD security clearance required (SECRET minimum).
  • 12+ years of Systems Engineering experience in Information Assurance systems or related products.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Systems Engineering lifecycle from inception through testing.
  • Experience in planning and executing verification for security features and system-level functionality.
  • Hands-on experience in system integration and testing for complex embedded or networked systems.
  • Proficiency in authoring and reviewing documentation for formal design reviews.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • A proven history in the architecture, design, and testing of NSA Type-1 certified systems.
  • Familiarity with the NSA Type-1 certification lifecycle and interactions with NSA evaluators.
  • Experience in supporting NSA security Certification & Verification activities.
  • Competence in security architecture creation, including making informed decisions on complex security trade-offs.
  • Working knowledge of cryptographic algorithms (symmetric and asymmetric) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
  • Understanding of key management systems as applied to End Cryptographic Units (ECUs).
  • Experience with networking protocols and secure embedded systems.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to collaborate across teams and effectively address challenges.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with cybersecurity compliance and Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP).
  • Advanced MBSE experience strongly preferred.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.

Compensation and Benefits:

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $104,500 - $193,500, varying based on factors such as experience and location. Specific benefits may vary depending on hire date, schedule type, and applicable agreements.
