Role Overview
General Motors (GM) is focused on developing outstanding learning programs that enhance the professional and leadership skills of our workforce. As a Learning Experience Designer (LED), you will play a crucial role in crafting high-quality, modern learning experiences that are aligned with business needs across various GM functions including Engineering, Safety, Human Resources, Finance, Corporate Learning, and Information Technology.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Consultation
- Advise business partners on adult learning principles and best practices for effective workplace learning.
- Conduct needs analyses to pinpoint performance gaps, identify root causes, and suggest targeted learning interventions.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), stakeholders, and target audiences through interviews and focus groups to validate learning needs.
- Leverage insights and data to align learning strategies with organizational objectives.
Design & Development
- Design and create learning experiences using instructional models such as ADDIE, SAM, and scenario-based learning.
- Develop engaging, scenario-based, and practice-focused learning activities that reflect real workplace challenges.
- Utilize AI to enhance modality selection, streamline development time, and create effective learning solutions.
- Create design documents, learning objectives, assessments, and criteria for success.
- Generate multi-modal learning assets including eLearning, instructor-led and virtual instructor-led training materials, videos, workshops, podcasts, and job aids.
- Write or improve instructional materials, facilitator guides, scripts, and other communication pieces.
Collaboration & Project Management
- Collaborate with SMEs, content writers, Learning Program Managers, coordinators, and project sponsors to gather content and ensure alignment across functions.
- Assist Learning Program Managers in defining project timelines, resource needs, and development expectations.
- Manage projects utilizing agile design approaches to enhance efficiency and streamline development.
- Support the setup of Learning Management Systems and the integration of learning materials.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or eLearning.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Portfolio Required: Must provide work samples showcasing eLearning, instructor-led and virtual instructor-led training materials, scenario-based learning, and performance support tools.
- Experience designing blended learning solutions (instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, eLearning).
- Solid understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and current learning strategies.
- Advanced proficiency in eLearning authoring and multimedia development tools, like Articulate Rise, Storyline, and video editing software.
- Experience using AI for various aspects of training development.
- Exceptional project management skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, consulting, and relationship-building abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting diverse business functions, including Engineering, Safety, HR, Finance, and IT.
- Graphic design skills focusing on visual storytelling and branding.
- UX design experience, including wireframing and user-centered design.
- Basic knowledge of JavaScript or interactive scripting.
- Strong facilitation skills for working sessions, breakout groups, and stakeholder alignment.
- Experience with Action Mapping and Design Thinking techniques.
- Background in creating scenario-based or branching learning experiences.
- Experience in producing communication or promotional materials for learning programs.
- Familiarity with learning analytics or evaluation frameworks.
- Experience with a large, matrixed organization and cross-functional collaboration.
Compensation
The compensation information provided is an estimate based on applicable state laws and may vary based on various factors. The salary range for this role is $103,900 to $166,000.

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
