Tesla

About the role

What to Expect

Imagine the fully autonomous future where nobody has to drive—unless for fun—and every car can earn money for the owner. This autonomous future means flawless communications with Autopilot HW/SW to deliver critical driving visualizations, simultaneously supporting an ever-richer suite of entertainment and productivity features for passengers—like theater on wheels, providing immersive media experiences.

Tesla's Software Platform team builds the foundational operating system that powers the in-vehicle experience on top of open-source base components like the Linux kernel and Coreboot. We are responsible for the core components—the kernel, bootchain, drivers, and low-level services—that enable Tesla's entire software ecosystem.

What You'll Do

  • Extract every bit of performance out of the hardware using first principles
  • Leverage latest upstream technologies to unlock new visual experiences
  • Develop and integrate tooling to identify optimization opportunities across the stack
  • Identify and execute on stability improvements as we scale the fleet
  • Bring-up next generation hardware
  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to best practices for high-quality embedded software development

What You'll Bring

  • Significant Embedded Linux experience in production
  • Excellent C/C++ coding skills
  • Strong Linux Kernel fundamentals
  • Experience with Linux graphics technologies (Wayland, Mesa3D, DRM)
  • Contributions to the Linux Kernel or other open source projects, preferred
  • Experience with Graphics APIs (Vulkan, OpenGL)
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
