Your Role
As a systems engineer in the operations team, you will operate and monitor the Threema services and help build the infrastructure behind them. Your work keeps our systems secure, reliable, and scalable – protecting the privacy of millions of people. Our infrastructure is built on open source technologies, and we expect you to feel at home in this ecosystem.
Your Tasks
- Maintenance of a virtualization environment (Proxmox) and administration of virtual servers
- Administration of Linux‑based systems (RHEL); FreeBSD knowledge is a plus
- Operation, maintenance and further development of our infrastructure (services, networking, monitoring and alerting)
- Deployment and maintenance of containerized applications
- Management of our CI/CD infrastructure (GitLab CI) in collaboration with our developers
- Participation in 7×24 on‑call duty
Your Skills
Technical Experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar role
- Experience with server virtualization
- Expertise in IT security (VPN, firewall, system hardening, etc.)
- Experience with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Linux‑based systems
- Knowledge of automation and config‑as‑code solutions
- Experience with monitoring solutions
- Experience with OCI containers (Docker, Podman) and ideally experience with container orchestration
- Experience with databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL is a plus
- Experience with managing CI/CD infrastructure (especially GitLab CI) is a plus
Soft Skills
- High level of awareness with regards to IT security and privacy
- Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn new technologies and concepts
- Good written and spoken German and English (at least B2)
