Virgin Galactic (VG) is seeking a detail‑oriented Technical Writer with a passion for writing maintenance procedures to join the Spaceline Operations Team. Reporting to the Mx Programs Manager and working across Spaceline Operations, you will be responsible for authoring various maintenance task cards using our MRO software, hosting meetings, making revisions, and coordinating engineering analysis results with maintenance instructions. This is a full‑time position located at Spaceport America, New Mexico. The role emphasizes timeliness, execution of tasks, and daily deliverables, supporting the company strategy by holding ourselves and one another accountable for getting the work done.
Responsibilities
- Support the development, production, authoring, internal and external reviews, submittals, releases, and control of operational Maintenance Task Cards.
- Ensure the availability and accuracy of necessary information in preparation of maintenance documents by working closely with VG technical design engineers, project engineers, program managers, and subject‑matter experts.
- Utilize existing technical and procedural documentation to build aircraft‑maintenance‑based procedural task cards at the most effective and efficient level.
- Work collaboratively with maintenance planners to maximize task card organization and effectiveness.
- Facilitate the safety, quality, engineering, and maintenance verification and validation of maintenance task cards for technical accuracy.
- Work with flight maintenance, ground maintenance, quality, vehicle programs, and operations engineering functions to implement changes to released maintenance task cards.
- Resolve documentation deficiencies noted during usage of task cards.
- Perform on‑ship documentation as required.
- Other duties as assigned by Maintenance Operations Management.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or equivalent aerospace operations experience.
- Five (5) years of experience, with a minimum of three (3) years in a Title 14, Part 121 or 135 air carrier or maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) environment.
- High level of proficiency in preparation of technical data, product support data, logistic data, and technical documents.
- Proficient knowledge of aerospace industry standards and specifications.
- Excellent writing skills in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and strong ownership to bring issues to closure.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant certificate rating (preferred).
- Experience working with aircraft technical design data and blueprints and converting them into aircraft‑maintenance‑style task cards.
- Previous experience in aviation maintenance department operations (highly desirable).
- Professional experience in aviation/aerospace business.
- Willingness to travel at least 20 % as needed.
Compensation
- Annual U.S. base salary range: $81,650 – $124,600 (actual pay varies based on knowledge, skills, location, experience, and internal equity).
- Additional forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long‑term incentive) may be provided, along with a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
