Job Summary

We are seeking a highly technical, strategic Manager, Data Engineering (Applications) to lead the design, development, and optimization of production‑grade data pipelines that power our core business applications. In this role, you will lead a high‑performing team of internal FTEs and external consultants, ensuring the seamless flow of mission‑critical data across our ecosystem.

Unlike traditional warehouse‑centric roles, your focus will be on the operational data layer: building robust, real‑time, and batch integrations that ensure data consistency between enterprise applications. You will act as a bridge between Software Engineering, Digital Development, and Product teams, proactively architecting scalable solutions using Informatica and MuleSoft to support high‑uptime production environments.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of managing technical teams (FTEs and vendors) and delivering complex data engineering projects in fast‑paced environments.
  • Deep hands‑on experience with MuleSoft for enterprise‑level orchestration and pipeline development.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, data modeling for applications, and performance tuning for high‑volume production systems.
  • Expert‑level knowledge of integrating external platforms via REST/SOAP APIs and webhooks, ensuring secure and resilient connections.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project backlogs, lead stand‑ups, and communicate technical roadmaps to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Experience implementing data privacy‑by‑design, specifically regarding secure data handling and audit‑ready documentation.
  • Experience managing version control (Git Hub) and CI/CD workflows for data engineering assets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years in data or software engineering, with at least 3+ years in a management or leadership role.
  • Expertise in MuleSoft is required. Proficiency in Python and Advanced SQL for data manipulation and automation is essential.
  • Experience managing data flows from S3 buckets, SFTP sources, and message brokers (e.g., Kafka or Rabbit MQ).
  • Prior experience in Fashion Retail or E‑commerce is a significant advantage, particularly regarding ERP and POS data integrations.

Benefits

  • A comprehensive compensation package that includes performance‑driven bonuses.
  • A group retirement savings program with employer matching.
  • Flexible group insurance with personalized coverage that meets your needs.
  • Discount at Garage and Dynamite.
  • Exclusive private sample sales.
  • A flexible vacation policy.
  • Additional perks and benefits.

GDI has been repeatedly voted one of Montréal’s Top Employers and one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People.
