Job Purpose
The Advanced Development Unit is under the new Digital Innovation division in the Digital Development Innovation Department. The purpose of this department is to innovate and advance digital design creation, dimensional engineering, lifecycle management, automation, data verification, and consumption across Honda and by suppliers. The Advanced Development Unit will specifically focus on the design perspective for the innovation and advancement of tools and automation support.
Key Accountabilities
- Create proposals to achieve unit goals like selecting areas to focus on as a priority for business strategy and meeting manpower requirements.
- Identify designer tools and processes that can be eliminated, simplified, and automated.
- Identify target areas for Machine Learning and Automation to transform our business processes and allow our business to focus on core value‑added work.
- Provide support and guidance to move activities forward. Help remove perceived blockers. Facilitate creative thinking and innovation within design.
- Support Japan‑led future vehicle development project related work to digitally innovate tools and methods.
- Negotiate with Japan NA specific agreed tasks and goals for projects.
- Collaborate with Japan to coordinate activities and long‑term goals of projects.
- Support onsite meetings with Japan members and trips to Japan to move the project forward.
- Support hiring/create a team to execute the goals of the unit.
- Manage the daily activities of team members engaged in the coordination/implementation of all initiatives, prioritizing assignments, monitoring/evaluating work progress, providing mentoring/back‑up as needed, addressing performance/associate relations issues, and managing activities including performance reviews, reviewing, and approving time sheets and time‑off requests.
- Collaborate with Dept Lead to develop, plan, and implement strategic direction for the team including defining department budget/staffing needs, selection, and assessment criteria, actively participating in the hiring process, and creating/maintaining operational policies/procedures.
- Direct and track the manpower required to support Division and R‑theme projects.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 8+ years of relevant design and development experience
