About

Marine Chief Engineer will have a responsibility for managing technical solutions for contract administration and project management, including leading a diversified team of resources and contractors and continual engagement of a variety of stakeholders.

The MCE will report to the Head, Technical Services.

The position will require extensive travel within Canada, the USA, Asia, and Europe.

This position will be suitable for someone seeking extra assignments between sea-going contracts and planning for a shore job.

Requirements

  • Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or adjacent field
  • Certification by Transport Canada, First Class Marine Engineer or Electrotechnical Officer
  • 10+ years of related field and project planning experience
  • Broad technical expertise, including ship management, conversions, and project management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage large, complex projects
  • Enterprise-level computer platform experience, including MS Office and MS Project

Major Responsibilities

  • Plan all technical aspects of the programs and projects
  • Develop technical solutions supporting the Company service portfolio
  • Deliver all technical aspects of the project in accordance with the plan
  • Work with the Director to agree on the technical resources required, forecast, and manage resource costs throughout the projects
  • Ensure that all external design work is undertaken by suitably qualified and experienced teams, which are provided with a clearly defined scope culminating in agreed costs and timescales
  • Work with the Project Managers to monitor and report on the technical team’s progress on all required deliverables
  • Ensure every effort is undertaken to align the design with construction teams, providing them with assistance in delivering the project
  • Lead an installation team, manage contract requirements, and assist the sales team in the preparation of job estimates, proposals, and presentations
  • Overall responsibility for on-time delivery of projects, within the scope and on budget, as well as the overall quality of project delivery
  • Ownership of project financial performance, including accurate/on-time reporting and achieving targets; Cost/revenue forecasting; Billings, receivables, and payables management; Accruals; Working capital management.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction at acceptable levels and promptly resolve customer issues
  • Monitor and proactively manage overall project risk
  • Monitor and manage subcontractors and subcontractor risk
  • Manage all site instructions, change orders, puts and takes, and drive the generation and collection of change orders for out-of-scope work
  • Develop effective partnerships and manage relationships with subcontractors to ensure an adequate pool of resources is available
  • Manage selection and oversight of subcontractors for different jobs in conjunction, where appropriate, with the supply team.
  • Ensure projects are resourced properly with adequate headcount and skillsets; Collaborate with other managers/leaders to ensure that the most effective resources are allocated to projects
  • Build effective teams committed to organizational goals and foster collaboration among team members and between teams.
  • Develop strong relationships with sales and other managers/leaders to ensure effective sales to operations handovers, optimized utilization of resources, optimized procurement, optimized recruitment and selection process, and maximized pull-through of projects
  • Be the change management leader for the team and aggressively implement agreed-upon initiatives
  • Ensure applicable local and industry codes and standards are upheld
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment through effective communication, training, equipment/vehicle maintenance, and facilities improvement
