About the role
Hogan Lovells is a leading global law firm advising clients on complex regulatory, government‑facing, and sector‑specific matters worldwide. We are seeking a Marketing & Business Development (M&BD) Manager to support and help drive growth across the Government Relations & Public Affairs (GRPA) and Government Contracts & Education (GCEd) practice areas and the Education sector.
This role is a key member of the Global Regulatory & IP M&BD team and works closely with practice leaders, partners, and M&BD colleagues to develop and execute priority business development and marketing initiatives that advance practice and sector strategy. The successful candidate will be highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable working with senior stakeholders in politically sensitive and fast‑moving areas of practice. This role requires strong “managing‑up” skills, sound judgment, and the ability to move M&BD initiatives, ranging from pitches and credentials to events to marketing campaigns, from concept through implementation with minimal supervision.
The role is global in scope, with a primary focus on U.S.‑based practices and clients, and regular coordination with colleagues in other regions.
STRATEGIC BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, PLANNING & BUDGETING
- Support practice and sector leaders in the development, implementation, and ongoing management of business development and marketing plans aligned with firm and practice priorities.
- Develop, manage, and track M&BD budgets for supported practices and sector initiatives, in coordination with senior M&BD leadership.
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable M&BD initiatives, timelines, and deliverables, balancing priorities, resources, and budget.
- Monitor and report on plan performance, spend, and return on investment for key initiatives.
- Conduct and synthesize market, client, and competitive research to support targeting, positioning, and investment decisions.
PITCHES, PROPOSALS & STRATEGIC PURSUITS
- Manage and coordinate RFP responses, customized pitches, and business development presentations in collaboration with the Pitches & Pursuits team.
- Draft and tailor pitch content, credentials, and experience descriptions to align with client needs, practice strengths, and regulatory context.
- Support pursuit strategy development, including coordination across practices and offices where relevant.
- Coordinate directory and ranking submissions for relevant practices and sectors, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.
CLIENT & RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT
- Work closely with partners and senior lawyers to support client development efforts, including identifying and advancing new opportunities.
- Support client targeting initiatives and preparation of client‑specific materials and briefings.
- Help embed firm client development best practices across supported practices and sector teams.
- Maintain regular engagement with lawyers to understand priorities and ensure M&BD support is aligned with business objectives.
MARKETING STRATEGY & CAMPAIGN EXECUTION
- Execute integrated marketing campaigns to support visibility and growth of the supported practices and sector.
- Manage development and upkeep of marketing collateral, credentials, pitch materials, and website content.
- Support planning and execution of client‑facing programs such as briefings, webinars, events, and association activities, including follow‑up and metrics tracking.
- Assist with development and distribution of thought leadership, client alerts, and practice content across appropriate channels.
- Support management of relationships with relevant associations and sponsorships, including coordination and tracking of spend where applicable.
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS & PROFILE RAISING
- Support promotion of practice and sector capabilities internally through newsletters, intranet content, and internal updates.
- Coordinate logistics and materials for practice, sector, and working‑group meetings.
- Contribute to internal reporting on M&BD activity, pipeline, and outcomes.
- Collaborate with other M&BD managers and senior team members to ensure consistency, alignment, and sharing of best practices.
- Contribute to wider M&BD projects as required.

Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including managing budgets and tracking spend.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Strategic, proactive, and solution‑oriented mindset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required; familiarity with, and willingness to leverage, the firm’s AI tools preferred; and experience with Interaction and Foundation a plus.
Education, Certifications, And/Or Experience
- Seven (7) + years of marketing and business development experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services sector.
- Experience supporting government‑facing, regulatory, or public policy‑driven practices strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in marketing, communications, business development, or related field.
HOURS
Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including lunch hour, with flexibility to work outside normal business hours as needed. This position follows a hybrid schedule, with four days in the office and one day working remotely from home.
In Washington, D.C., the expected base salary range for this role is $136,000 to $195,000 per year.
This range reflects a good-faith estimate of pay at the time of posting; the actual compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as the candidate’s qualifications. This position is eligible for additional forms of compensation, which may include annual discretionary bonuses. Employees in this role are also eligible for benefits offered by the firm, subject to applicable plan terms and conditions, which currently include medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k)-retirement plan; and paid time off.
