About the role

Job Title

Marketing Platform Engineer (Contract) - Job#5929

Location

Hybrid (2x per week on-site in New York, New York)

Role Overview

We are hiring a Marketing Platform Engineer to lead the technical implementation and ongoing enablement of a modern marketing automation platform (e.g., Braze or Bloomreach).

This role sits at the intersection of marketing, data, and engineering. You will be responsible for integrating real-time customer data, supporting multi-channel journey orchestration, and enabling marketers to move faster without creating technical bottlenecks.

This is not a campaign execution role. It is a platform ownership and systems integration role.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Platform Implementation & Ownership

  • Lead the technical onboarding and configuration of a modern marketing orchestration platform
  • Own platform reliability, performance, and longterm scalability.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for platform vendors and internal teams.

Data & Event Integration

  • Design and maintain customer event schemas and attributes used for activation.
  • Integrate realtime and batch data via APIs, SDKs, CDPs, and data warehouses.
  • Ensure data quality, identity resolution, and low latency availability of behavioral signals.
  • Own and support SDK-based integrations (web and mobile) for customer data capture, messaging, and personalization, partnering with application teams to ensure correct instrumentation, identity handling, and reliable event delivery.

Journey Enablement

  • Support complex, multichannel customer journeys across email, SMS, push, and web.
  • Configure eligibility logic, suppression rules, reentry behavior, and frequency controls.
  • Enable safe modification and optimization of live journeys.

Marketer Enablement

  • Build reusable foundations (events, attributes, templates, guardrails) that enable marketer self service.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical configurations.
  • Reduce longterm dependency on engineering and custom development.

QA, Governance & Reliability

  • Establish QA, preview, and validation of workflows for journeys and content.
  • Support permissions, approvals, and audibility.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data delays, failed integrations, and platform issues.

Required Experience

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years in marketing technology, platform engineering, or data integrated systems roles.
  • Hands on experience implementing or owning a marketing automation, lifecycle, or orchestration platform.
  • Strong understanding of event-based data models and customer identity concepts.
  • Experience working across marketing, data, and engineering teams.

Technical Skills

  • Experience working with modern marketing platforms such as Braze, Bloomreach, Iterable, or similar.
  • Strong familiarity with event and customer data platforms such as Segment, mParticle, RudderStack, Snowflake, Census / Hightouch
  • Hands on experience implementing and maintaining web and mobile SDK integrations for customer data collection, push notifications, and realtime personalization
  • Ability to debug SDK instrumentation, event payloads, and identity flows in collaboration with engineering teams
  • Familiarity with SQL, Python for integration, debugging, or scripting purposes.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting multibrand or multi-region marketing teams.
  • Exposure to mobile app SDK integrations (iOS / Android).
  • Familiarity with deliverability, compliance, and consent management concepts.
  • Prior experience participating in a marketing platform migration.

What Will Make You Successful In This Role

  • You think in systems, not just tools.
  • You prioritize speed, reliability, and scalability.
  • You enable marketers without becoming a bottleneck.
  • You balance flexibility with governance.
  • You are comfortable owning a critical enterprise platform.
