Job Details
This is a hands-on mechanical design role focused on building custom automated equipment that drives high-volume manufacturing. You will design and develop machines with complex mechanisms, bring them to life on the floor, and continuously improve performance in a fast-paced production environment.
Location: Broomall, PA 19008 | Onsite (1st shift) | Some remote flexibility
Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom automated manufacturing equipment from concept through production
- Create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for fabrication and assembly
- Design mechanisms involving motion, pneumatics, and part transfer systems
- Prototype, assemble, debug, and refine machinery on the production floor
- Troubleshoot equipment running high-speed production (up to 5 parts/sec)
- Improve cycle times, reliability, and output across existing equipment
- Work directly with machinists, technicians, and operators to solve real production issues
- Integrate automation components including sensors, actuators, and motion systems
- Lead small engineering efforts from concept through implementation
Must have Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
- 4+ years designing automated equipment or machinery
- Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD)
- Proven experience designing mechanisms and moving systems (not static structures)
- Hands-on experience building, debugging, and improving equipment
- Knowledge of pneumatics, motion systems, and mechanical assemblies
- Experience creating fabrication-ready drawings
- Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving mindset
Nice to have
- High-volume manufacturing experience
- Machine safety system design
- Inspection systems (vision, laser, etc.)
- Experience working in regulated environments (FDA, ISO, UL)
- Project ownership including scoping and execution
