Role Overview
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of transformers and their mechanical components. Acting as a technical reference within the team, you will contribute to complex engineering projects, provide strong technical leadership, and support the growth of less experienced engineers. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑performance, efficient, and industry‑compliant solutions.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of transformers and their mechanical components in accordance with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, CSA) and customer requirements
- Perform advanced engineering analyses to optimize product performance, reliability, cost, and efficiency
- Conduct and supervise failure analyses related to design issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions
- Provide technical leadership during design reviews and support decision‑making on complex engineering matters
- Mentor and guide three engineers (junior, intermediate, and senior) in their technical and professional development
- Collaborate closely with production, quality, supply chain, sales, and customer service to ensure smooth integration of designs into manufacturing
- Prepare, maintain, and enhance rigorous engineering documentation (specifications, test plans, technical reports)
- Work within ERP systems to ensure accuracy and traceability of engineering data
Required Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Over 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in transformer design or comparable industrial equipment
- Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
- Proven experience leading design projects from concept through production
- Advanced proficiency with design and analysis tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, FEA, thermal analyses)
- Strong knowledge of applicable standards and regulatory requirements (IEEE, IEC, CSA, DOE)
- Comfortable working with ERP environments
- Bilingual in French and English, both spoken and written
- Natural leadership with the ability to influence, structure, and develop talent
- Strong analytical skills and autonomy in solving complex technical problems
- Excellent organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary environment
