About the Opportunity

Currently, MAT 4Site has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Toronto (North York), ON on a full-time basis. This role will operate on a hybrid basis of in‑office/on‑site and work from home.

Reporting to a Senior Mechanical Engineer, this role is responsible for leading the design and delivery of mechanical building systems while managing assigned projects from concept through completion. This position plays a key role in coordinating with clients and project stakeholders, ensuring high‑quality engineering deliverables, and mentoring junior designers to support successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the design and delivery of mechanical building systems for commercial, multi‑residential, and institutional projects
  • Managing project assignments including scope, schedules, milestones, and client coordination
  • Preparing and reviewing conceptual and detailed mechanical system designs
  • Performing site investigations, field reviews, and attending project meetings with clients and contractors
  • Developing and reviewing AutoCAD drawings and BIM models using Revit
  • Designing and reviewing HVAC systems including load calculations, equipment sizing, and system layouts
  • Designing and reviewing plumbing, drainage, fuel/gas, and fire protection systems
  • Preparing energy models and conducting system performance analyses for building projects
  • Preparing technical specifications, engineering reports, feasibility studies, and lifecycle analyses
  • Coordinating with clients, contractors, consultants, and local utilities throughout project execution
  • Reviewing designs for compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and quality requirements
  • Mentoring junior designers, assigning tasks, and providing technical guidance

Qualifications (More About You)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • P.Eng. designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering within a consulting environment, specifically focused on building systems
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel to project sites

Highly valued skills and background:

  • Experience leading the design and delivery of mechanical building systems for commercial, multi‑residential, industrial, and institutional facilities
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and the MS Office Suite
  • Proficiency with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, eQUEST, IES/IESVE, or EnergyPlus
  • Demonstrated expertise in HVAC design, load calculations, and mechanical equipment sizing
  • Experience designing and reviewing plumbing, drainage, fuel/gas, and fire protection systems
  • Experience preparing energy models and performing system performance analysis for buildings
  • Ability to prepare technical specifications, engineering reports, feasibility studies, and lifecycle analyses
