Summary

The Mechanical Engineering Manager plays a key role within a fast-paced engineering team, overseeing departmental operations while actively contributing to hands-on project work. This role combines leadership responsibilities with technical execution, including the design, testing, and optimization of pneumatic and hydraulic products. Success in this position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, analytical thinking, and effective cross-functional collaboration to drive product development and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Management

  • Lead and manage the engineering department to ensure timely project delivery
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the design team to enhance processes and technical capabilities
  • Build and strengthen engineering and project management skills across the team
  • Partner with HR to establish internship programs with local colleges to support talent development
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance across all design projects

Mechanical Design & Project Execution

  • Design, test, and improve pneumatic and hydraulic products to meet performance and project requirements
  • Develop custom valve designs using SolidWorks, from concept through production
  • Perform engineering analyses, simulations, and stress calculations to validate product performance
  • Collaborate with internal teams, customers, and stakeholders to meet project scope, timelines, and budgets
  • Coordinate with vendors to obtain technical specifications and support product development
  • Conduct testing, inspections, and quality control to ensure compliance with industry and customer standards
  • Recommend design improvements based on prototype and test results
  • Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and manuals
  • Identify opportunities for product and process improvements and implement effective solutions
  • Resolve complex engineering challenges in collaboration with manufacturing, suppliers, and customers
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring cost-effective, safe, and reliable product outcomes
  • Provide leadership and guidance to support team growth toward expanded engineering management responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product design engineering, preferably in pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and engineering calculation skills (stress, tolerance, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated integrity, reliability, and professionalism

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in fluid power systems, hydraulic cylinder design, and OEM applications
  • Knowledge of seal selection, casting and fabrication processes, and military contract requirements
  • Understanding of material properties, prototyping, and testing methods
  • Prior leadership experience or potential to lead a team of 4–6 engineers

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in both office and machine shop environments, following all safety protocols
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods as needed
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 50 lbs may be required
  • Requires manual dexterity and visual focus for operating computers and technical equipment
