About the role
About Us
The Fraunhofer Society is one of the world's leading organizations for applied research. 75 institutes develop pioneering technologies for our economy and society – specifically, 32,000 people from technology, science, administration, and IT. Your new task is located at the Fraunhofer headquarters in the "B37 Central IT Service Center" department: in the "Fraunhofer Microsoft 365 Operations" team. Here, company-wide IT infrastructure services with a focus on cloud and collaboration technologies (such as Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID/Azure Cloud) as well as AI-powered services (e.g., Microsoft 365 Copilot or GitHub Copilot) are managed and further developed for our internal customers in all Fraunhofer institutes and for the Fraunhofer headquarters.

You will work in an interdisciplinary team at the Bonn or alternatively Munich location on exciting and innovative topics. We operate and develop a large Fraunhofer Private Cloud On-Premise (with data centers in Munich, Birlinghoven, and Frankfurt). At the same time, we are shaping the use of public cloud services – especially Microsoft 365 – and driving the introduction of AI services like Microsoft 365 Copilot within the Fraunhofer Society.
As a Microsoft 365 Copilot Engineer, you will be responsible for the further development and management of the Microsoft 365 Copilot environment, as well as topics like GitHub Copilot within the Fraunhofer Society.
Responsibilities
Here you make a difference
- Development and Support of the Copilot Environment: You will develop and maintain the Microsoft 365 Copilot environment within the Fraunhofer Society. This activity requires extensive expertise in the Microsoft 365 environment and AI-powered services and is of great importance for our digital innovation capabilities.
- Collaboration and Integration: You will work closely with colleagues from various teams to continuously improve the functionality and integration of Microsoft 365 services, especially Copilot features.
- Security and Compliance: You will implement and maintain security policies and compliance measures for Microsoft 365 applications, particularly for Microsoft 365 Copilot. This ensures that all systems comply with strict data protection and compliance requirements and that data integrity is maintained within the Fraunhofer Society at all times.
- Support and Training: You will support internal users and conduct training on the functions and best practices of Microsoft 365 Copilot. This ensures that our employees can use the new Copilot tools effectively and efficiently.
- Project Management for Introduction and Optimization: You will take on the planning and management of projects for the introduction and optimization of Microsoft 365 Copilot Services. These strategically important projects contribute significantly to digital transformation and efficiency gains in our institutes.
- Extending Microsoft Copilot with Custom Agents: You will design and create custom Microsoft Copilot agents (using Microsoft Copilot Studio) to specifically adapt Microsoft 365 Copilot to operational processes and our needs. You will consider all necessary prerequisites (e.g., suitable data sources, permissions, and technical infrastructure) for their secure and successful use.
- Operation and Continuous Improvement: You will ensure the smooth operation and continuous development of Microsoft 365 Copilot tools. This guarantees high availability of services and great user satisfaction.
- You will support the operation of the GitHub Copilot infrastructure, which provides AI-assisted tools for the software developers of the Fraunhofer Society.
Qualifications
Here you contribute
- Completed scientific university degree in computer science, engineering, or a comparable field.
