Microsoft Cloud Architect – Full‑Time (40 h/week)
Location: Klosterneuburg (near Vienna), Austria – Home‑office possible
Salary: €54 000 gross per year * (plus possible over‑payment based on education, qualifications & experience)

Your Mission
As a Microsoft Cloud Architect within the Core IT Infrastructure team (≈ 50 experts), you will design, implement, and operate ISTA’s cloud ecosystem, driving the migration to Microsoft 365 and Azure while ensuring security, scalability, and cost‑efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture & Design – Build secure, scalable Azure and Microsoft 365 solutions that meet research and administrative needs.
- Migration & Modernisation – Lead the move of on‑premises workloads (identity, data, applications) to the cloud.
- Governance & Compliance – Define landing zones, policies, RBAC, cost‑optimisation, and security baselines (Entra ID, Defender, Sentinel).
- Stakeholder Collaboration – Translate functional & compliance requirements into cloud‑native designs, working closely with cybersecurity, networking, and application teams.
- Automation & DevOps – Implement IaC (ARM, Bicep, Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring/alerting for cloud resources.
- Advisory & Mentoring – Guide internal teams on Microsoft 365 optimisation, Azure best practices, and provide architectural documentation and training.
- Strategic Road‑Mapping – Contribute to ISTA’s overall digital‑transformation roadmap.
Who You Are

| Certifications | Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Administrator, Security Engineer (plus) |
| Frameworks | ITIL, ISO 27001, or similar service‑management & security standards |
| Languages | English (fluent); German (advantage) |
| Domain Knowledge | Experience in research, higher‑education, or public‑sector environments is a plus |

Requirements
- Several years of hands-on experience as a cloud architect or senior engineer with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 in medium to large environments
- Deep understanding of Azure core services (compute, storage, networking), identity and access management (Entra ID), security (Defender, Sentinel), and governance
- Proven experience with cloud migrations, hybrid environments (cloud and on-premises), and integration with existing enterprise infrastructure
- Strong skills in automation and scripting as well as familiarity with DevOps practices
- Ability to communicate complex architectural topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and to work collaboratively across teams
- Used to working with IT service management and IT security frameworks (ITIL, ISO 27001, …)
Responsibilities
- Designing, implementing, and continuously improving secure, scalable Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure architectures to support the Institute's research and administrative services
- Driving the migration and modernisation of on-premises workloads to Microsoft 365 and Azure, including identity, data, and application services
- Defining and maintaining cloud governance, including landing zones, standards, policies, role-based access, cost efficiency, and security baselines
- Collaborating with key stakeholders across the Institute to translate functional and compliance requirements into cloud-native solutions
- Working closely with cybersecurity, networking, and application teams to ensure end-to-end security, resilience, and performance of cloud services
- Driving automation and standardisation for provisioning, configuration, and monitoring of cloud resources
- Advising internal teams on the implementation and optimisation of Microsoft 365 applications and Azure workloads
- Providing architectural guidance, documentation, and mentoring to engineers, and contributing to our overall digital transformation roadmap
