As a Mid-Level Solutions Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the objectives of the SEC Office of Information Technology (OIT) by designing and implementing robust technology solutions tailored to enterprise needs. In this role, you will convert functional business requirements into secure and scalable technical architectures, ensuring your solutions are both effective and compliant. You will actively validate potential technologies through proof-of-concepts, pilots, and demos, providing crucial analyses to support informed decision-making, while also generating clear and comprehensive documentation aligned with operational and compliance standards.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Requirements Analysis and Solution Design
- Conduct daily solution engineering activities to identify technologies that fulfill SEC enterprise functional and technical needs.
- Translate business and mission requirements into actionable technical architecture and engineering specifications.
- Establish criteria for evaluating security, performance, scalability, interoperability, and supportability.
- Ensure proposed solutions align with ISS objectives and the SEC/OIT modernization strategy.
Proof of Concept, Pilot, and Demo Execution
- Plan and execute proof-of-concept efforts, pilots, and demonstrations to assess technology suitability.
- Create test scenarios and success metrics to objectively evaluate outcomes.
- Document findings, risks, dependencies, and implementation considerations after each evaluation.
- Present insights to stakeholders and adjust approaches based on feedback received.
Analysis of Alternatives and Recommendations
- Conduct detailed quantitative analysis of alternatives for technology options.
- Examine tradeoffs across cost, risk, compliance, and operational impacts.
- Draft recommendation papers that outline alternatives considered, evaluation standards, rationale, and decision-making pathways.
- Identify further research, engineering tasks, or pilot activities necessary before full adoption.
Documentation, Governance, and Stakeholder Collaboration
- Generate thorough technical analyses, architecture documentation, and support materials for governance and audit readiness.
- Work collaboratively with operations, security, engineering, and program stakeholders to ensure alignment with contract obligations.
- Promote continuous improvement by integrating lessons learned into future solutions.
- Maintain traceability of requirements, evaluations, and decisions within SEC authorized processes and systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Citizenship/Work Authorization: U.S. citizenship required; dual citizenship not permitted under this contract.
- Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust clearance (or higher if required).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering); additional experience may substitute for degree.
Experience:
- 4+ years of experience in business solutions engineering within enterprise IT settings.
- Proven background in architectural design, engineering, proof of concept developments, and documentation.
- Expertise in mapping functional needs to technical specifications and producing thorough analysis documentation for stakeholders.
Technical Skills:
- Mapping functional to technical requirements
- Enterprise architectural and engineering design
- Planning and executing proofs of concept, pilots, and demos
- Quantitative alternative analysis and tradeoff evaluation
- Technical writing skills for documentation of criteria, results, and recommendations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in federal civilian IT program support within regulated environments.
- Familiarity with FISMA, Zero Trust concepts, and audit-support practices.
- Experience evaluating hybrid enterprise cloud and collaboration platforms.
- Understanding of IT service management processes and tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Ability to effectively communicate data-driven recommendations to both technical and non-technical leadership.
- TOGAF Certification
- Microsoft Certification: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
- ITIL 4 Foundation certification
WORK ENVIRONMENT / OTHER
- Operational Support: May require participation in on-call or surge support as needed.
- Travel: As required based on contract needs.
