About the role
SMX is seeking a Mid-Level System Security Engineer (SSE) to support the Unmanned Carrier Aviation Program Office (PMA-268) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station.
Key Responsibilities: • Assist PMA-268 Cyber Leads in executing the Cybersecurity Program. • Draft and review Program Documentation, Policies, and Plans. • Coordinate with Cyber Leads on changes affecting security posture and authorizations. • Lead System Security Engineering activities for all relevant systems. • Oversee all cybersecurity activities within the Integrated Product Team (IPT). • Review system documentation to maintain expert knowledge of architecture and functionalities. • Collaborate with IPT Leads to quickly address cybersecurity items impacting cost or schedule. • Develop and manage a cyber schedule with detailed Work Breakdown Schedule (WBS). • Contribute to Statements of Work (SOWs) and Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs). • Identify and document system security requirements for product specifications. • Conduct analysis and traceability of cyber requirements. • Monitor the execution and performance of security measures for systems. • Conduct critical function analysis and identify Mission Essential Functions (MEF). • Lead assessments for Critical Program Information (CPI). • Understand vulnerabilities and attack vectors affecting systems. • Recommend security solutions to PMA-268 Cyber Leads. • Support Cyber Survivability Risk Assessments (CSRA) and collaborative artifact development. • Facilitate definitions for enclaves and boundary protection requirements. • Manage system security certification and registration activities. • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely actions for cybersecurity activities. • Lead the IPT SSE Working Group for cybersecurity efforts. • Maintain awareness of the authorization status of Systems/Subsystems. • Participate in change management processes to protect cybersecurity posture. • Document and work on Risk Management activities with Cyber and Product Managers. • Assist with identifying Information Types and ensuring impact levels for identified information. • Review the Plan of Actions and Milestones (POA&M) for open findings and concerns. • Investigate potential issues in hardware/software lists.
Expectations: • Log in to Microsoft Teams daily and participate in meetings. • Work in the PMA-268 Program Office in person every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during core hours (0830-1430). • Additional office days may be required as needed. • Provide weekly updates on tasks, cyber status, and task trackers. • Ensure no actions remain stagnant for more than 2 weeks. • Supply meeting summaries to the PMA-268 cyber team.
Required Qualifications: • Secret clearance required. • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for work on DoD contracts. • Bachelor's degree in a technical or scientific field from an accredited institution. • A minimum of seven (7) years in a cyber-related role, preferably within a DoD environment.
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in a program office setting is highly desirable. • Aviation engineering background is preferred.
