Field Engineer

About

As Field Engineer for the Finning Power Rental team, you will work on a wide range of electric power projects across the UK and Ireland. You will set up rental solutions and ensure rental equipment including generators, load-banks, transformers, fuel tanks and ancillaries are serviceable to support rental customers. Equipment includes prime, backup and emergency power solutions such as Cat® generators, load banks, HV and LV transformers, fuel tanks, cables and custom solutions.

Major Job Functions

• Inspect, service and maintain rental equipment per maintenance schedules
• Complete ready to rent tasks and rental returns process using CAT inspection application
• Setup rental equipment per customer requirements and project drawings
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems quickly, safely, and efficiently
• Support logistics preparation and execution for equipment inbound/outbound
• Lead site installation, commissioning, decommissioning including generator synchronisation
• Perform in-depth repairs on rental equipment
• Adhere fully to Health & Safety policies including risk assessments

• Completion and application of Finning E&T service and maintenance engineering skills up to advanced level
• Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
• Ability to direct and mentor engineering team and subcontractors
• Resourceful and adaptable
• Excellent understanding of Health & Safety regulations
• Customer focused and commercially aware

Knowledge

• Strong experience with mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
• Good knowledge of product range and control across rental equipment portfolio
• Good working knowledge of load bank setup and testing processes

Accountability

• Work safely and in accordance with QHSSE policies to prevent accidents
• Report near misses, incidents and accidents immediately
• Adhere to Company’s Electrical Safety Policy

Education & Experience

• Apprenticeship trained, NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical or Electronic) or equivalent
• Good knowledge of Health & Safety
• Full driving licence held for at least 2 years (subject to DVLA check)
• Proven technical hands-on field experience in maintenance and diagnostics
• 5+ years experience in rental energy sector or similar role
• Further mechanical and/or electronic engineering qualifications
• Safe pass (ROI) or CSCS (UK) required
• Offshore certifications where required
• Competent skill level on basic and advanced Level 1 Engineer skills per company training matrix
