You will become part of the Storage, Network & Infrastructure Engineering Team within the YODA (Your Data and Data Centers) circle. The team consists of engineers who work in a highly collaborative hybrid setup across Zurich and Lausanne, with English being the primary team language. The team is responsible for the design, operation, and further development of Switch's network and datacenter infrastructure, which forms the backbone of all Switch services. You will work closely with internal engineering and security teams and play a central role in ensuring a stable, secure, and scalable infrastructure.
Your Main Tasks
In this role, you will design, operate, and continuously improve Switch's network and datacenter infrastructure across multiple locations. You will work hands-on with enterprise networking technologies, datacenter hardware, and modern automation approaches, contributing significantly to the reliability and security of business-critical services.
Datacenter Infrastructure
- Creation and maintenance of datacenter hardware (rack installations, cabling, labeling)
- Monitoring and operation of the infrastructure across multiple datacenter locations
- Error analysis and troubleshooting of hardware and network problems to ensure high availability
- Occasional on-site assignments in the datacenters in Zurich and Lausanne (installations, maintenance, incident handling)
- Execution of hardware lifecycle management (installation, replacement, decommissioning)
- Participation in the further development of legacy systems towards modern infrastructure environments
Network Engineering
- Design, configuration, and operation of network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls)
- Management and optimization of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
- Ensuring secure and stable network operation, including VPNs and firewall configurations
- Involvement in incident analysis and resolution in network environments
- Continuous improvement of network architecture, performance, and security
Operations & Collaboration
- Collaboration with Engineering, Platform, and Security teams at Switch
- Performing installations, upgrades, and maintenance work in the infrastructure
- Utilizing automation and Infrastructure-as-Code approaches where appropriate
- Contributing to documentation, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence
- Supporting internal stakeholders with infrastructure topics
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives and cross-team collaboration
What You Bring
- Completed IT apprenticeship (e.g., System Engineering), higher education, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of professional experience in this field
- Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, VLANs) and network security
- Practical experience with enterprise networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls)
- Experience in datacenter environments and infrastructure operation
- Very good knowledge of English and/or German (spoken and written)
- Willingness for occasional on-site assignments and travel between datacenters in Zurich and Lausanne
Mindset

Nice to have
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or comparable
- Experience with automation, scripting (Bash, etc.), or Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
- Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix)
- Basic understanding of cloud or software-defined networking
- Additional language skills (Swiss German or Italian)
