Our client, a leader in the telecommunications industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Security Engineer to join their operations team based in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, ZA. This is a critical on-site role responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security measures to protect the company's network infrastructure and data. You will play a vital role in safeguarding our systems against cyber threats, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our network services. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of network protocols, security principles, and the latest threat landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage network security solutions, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs, and access control mechanisms.
- Monitor network traffic for security breaches and anomalous activity, responding effectively to incidents.
- Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests to identify and mitigate risks.
- Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Configure and manage security devices and software to ensure optimal performance and protection.
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure security is integrated into all aspects of network design and operation.
- Stay current with the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and support on network security matters to other IT personnel.
- Participate in incident response planning and execution, including forensic analysis when required.
- Ensure compliance with relevant security standards and regulations.
- Manage security-related hardware and software lifecycles.
- Develop and deliver security awareness training to staff.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network security issues promptly and efficiently.
- Evaluate and recommend new security technologies and solutions.
- Contribute to the development of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in network security engineering is required.
- Certifications such as CISSP, CCNA Security, or CompTIA Security+ are highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), routing, switching, and firewalls is essential.
- Hands-on experience with security tools and technologies, including SIEM systems, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security solutions, is mandatory.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are crucial for this role.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in an on-site environment is required.
