Job Summary
We are seeking a Nuclear Procedure Technical Writer with a minimum of 15 years of direct experience writing and maintaining operations procedures for NRC or DOE-regulated nuclear facilities. Must be familiar with MS Office and possess expertise in developing clear, technically accurate, and compliant procedures for nuclear plant operations, including normal, abnormal, and emergency operating instructions, surveillance procedures, and administrative controls. Collaboration with safety, engineering, and operations organization will be imperative.
Primary Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Develop and revise procedures
- Research operations and processes to understand nature of task(s) addressed in procedure scope.
- Be able to perform field walk downs as applicable to support process nature development.
- Communicate regularly with clients including operations, maintenance, and engineering.
- Perform procedure, licensing and technical basis document reviews to assess procedure adequacy.
- Follow established procedure development and revision process procedures.
Minimum Qualifications / Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (most common preference) in one of the following fields:
- Technical Writing, English, or Communications
- Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical)
- Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry)
- Nuclear Technology or Operations-related field
- A bachelor’s degree is “preferred” but not strictly required, especially when paired with significant nuclear procedure writing experience.
- Associate degree combined with relevant technical training (e.g., from a nuclear navy background, technical school, or community college nuclear technology program) is acceptable as an alternative to a bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of 15 years of direct experience writing and maintaining operations procedures for NRC or DOE-regulated nuclear facilities.
- Ability to obtain a DOE “Q” Clearance [Active “Q” clearance is preferred].
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenship.

The primary work site will be Oak, Ridge, TN
