Freelance Site Manager – Data Centre

The Role

For a major data centre project in Vienna, we are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to take full responsibility for the day‑to‑day site operations during a critical phase of delivery and transition into operations.

This role is ideally suited to a hands‑on, technically strong site leader with experience in mission‑critical environments, who thrives in fast‑paced, high‑availability projects and is used to coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders on complex builds.

Key Responsibilities

• Full site management responsibility, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all on‑site activities
• Leadership and coordination of site teams, subcontractors, and specialist contractors
• Oversight of mechanical, electrical, and critical infrastructure works (UPS, generators, cooling systems, BMS, etc.)
• Daily planning, sequencing, and prioritisation of site activities to meet project milestones
• Enforcing HSE standards, safety procedures, and compliance with local regulations and industry best practice
• Acting as the primary escalation point for site issues, delays, or technical challenges
• Monitoring quality, progress, and productivity, ensuring works are delivered to specification
• Interface with project management, engineering, client representatives, and commissioning teams
• Supporting inspections, testing, commissioning, and handover activities
• Ensuring accurate site documentation, reporting, and records are maintained

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Site Manager on data centre, pharmaceutical, or other mission‑critical projects
• Strong technical background in M&E or critical facilities
• Track record working with main contractors or specialist contractors
• Excellent understanding of high‑availability environments and complex infrastructure installations
• Confident managing subcontractors, schedules, and site logistics
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to make decisions under pressure
• Fluent German (mandatory) – essential for site coordination, safety briefings, and local compliance
• Good English for reporting and stakeholder communication
• Available for a 12–15 month freelance contract
