Tangent International are urgently looking for a Operations & Maintenance Manager to work a 6 month rolling contract based in South Africa (Johannesburg)
Responsibilities
- End-to-End Facility Management: Full responsibility for the operation and maintenance of core facility infrastructure, including power systems (HV/LV distribution, UPS, switch-mode power supplies, batteries), air conditioning and thermal control, environmental monitoring (BTS), fire protection, security systems, and space resource management, ensuring 7×24 high availability of core facilities.
- Customer Governance & Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for Tier-1 customer executives; lead daily/weekly/monthly facility performance review meetings, clearly reporting site health status, risk alerts, and improvement actions, effectively managing customer expectations.
- SLA/KPI Achievement & Continuous Improvement: Directly accountable for meeting all facility-related SLA targets (e.g., power availability, temperature control compliance, emergency response time); lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement Service Improvement Plans (SIP) after critical incidents to enhance facility reliability.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Coordinate power, HVAC, monitoring, security, and on-site O&M teams to ensure seamless collaboration and smooth operational handovers across systems.
- Resource & Outsourcing Management: Supervise third-party maintenance vendors' service quality and responsiveness, manage spare parts inventory and utilization, and optimize facility O&M costs and resource efficiency.
Skills & Experience
- Managed Services (MS) Experience (Essential): Proven experience in managing facility operations within large-scale Managed Services projects for major South African operators (e.g., Vodacom, MTN, Telkom, or Cell C).
- Multi-Domain Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of core telecom site infrastructure, including power supply, HVAC, environmental monitoring, fire safety, and physical security systems.
- Stakeholder Management: Strong ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and maintain professional relationships in a multicultural and high-pressure environment.
- Emergency & Crisis Response: Demonstrated capability to lead rapid response and recovery efforts during major facility failures (e.g., power outages, cooling failures, fire alarms) or natural disasters, ensuring business continuity.
Education & Certifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, HVAC, Automation, or a related field.
- Professional Experience: 8+ years in the telecommunications industry, with at least 5 years in a senior facility or O&M management role within a Managed Services environment.
- Certifications:
- ITIL Foundation/Intermediate (mandatory for service process governance)
- PMP (mandatory for project management discipline)
- Industry-relevant certifications (e.g., electrician license, refrigeration certificate, fire system operator certificate).
