About the role

SUMMARY:

Job Purpose

Our client based in the heart of George, is on a recruitment drive for an Operations / Sales Manager to join their team. The ideal candidate will be required to lead and manage both sales and operational functions of the business, ensuring profitability, efficient day-to-day operations, and exceptional customer service across the retail store and workshop. The role is responsible for driving revenue growth, managing inventory, and overseeing after sales and technical service processes.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Drive retail and B2B sales growth (walk-in customers, contractors, farmers, and commercial clients)
  • Manage and grow existing customer relationships
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities and partnerships
  • Monitor sales targets, margins, and overall profitability
  • Oversee promotions, merchandising, and pricing strategies

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily store and workshop operations
  • Ensure smooth coordination between:
    • Sales floor
    • Parts department
    • Repairs/workshop
  • Maintain operational efficiency and acceptable turnaround times
  • Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Stock & Inventory Control

  • Manage stock levels (machines, spare parts, and accessories)
  • Forecast demand and place supplier orders accordingly
  • Control shrinkage and minimize stock losses
  • Ensure accurate pricing, stock recording, and system updates
  • Maintain strong inventory planning and control practices

Aftersales & Technical Oversight

  • Direct aftersales activities, including bookings-in and diagnostics processes
  • Oversee workflow within the workshop to ensure efficiency and quality
  • Coordinate with technicians on repairs, servicing, and customer feedback

Team Leadership

  • Lead and manage sales staff, workshop technicians, and administrative team members
  • Set performance targets and monitor staff productivity
  • Provide ongoing training on products (chainsaws, lawnmowers, brush cutters, etc.)
  • Handle staff scheduling, discipline, and performance management

Customer Service

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction across all departments
  • Resolve customer complaints and technical queries effectively
  • Maintain strong product knowledge of outdoor power equipment

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Oversee cash handling and daily reconciliations
  • Manage budgets, expenses, and cost control
  • Monitor and maintain healthy profit margins
  • Analyse sales reports and operational performance metrics
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and administrative processes

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure the store and workshop comply with health and safety regulations
  • Promote safe working practices and proper use of equipment
  • Maintain tools, machinery, and a safe working environment

POSITION INFO:

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent
  • Proven experience in retail, sales, or operations management
  • Experience in machinery, hardware, or equipment sales (preferred)
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Financial acumen and experience managing budgets and reports
  • Computer literacy (POS systems, inventory systems, Microsoft Office)
