About the role

Job Description Our client in the travel industry is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper / Accountant to work in-office one to two mornings per week (approximately 6-8 hours per week). The ideal candidate will have previous bookkeeping and accounting experience within the travel industry. The successful candidate must reside in Cape Town and be able to work flexible hours in-office.

Responsibilities:

Manage the full bookkeeping function for each entity, maintaining records up to trial balance and balance sheet level.

Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all reconciliations are completed timeously.

Oversee debtors and creditors processes, including onboarding, invoicing, reconciliations, and payment processing.

Administer payroll, including statutory submissions (PAYE, UIF, SDL, EMP201, EMP501) and the maintenance of supporting payroll documentation.

Prepare and submit VAT returns as well as corporate tax provisional and annual returns through SARS eFiling.

Support intercompany transactions, including billing, reconciliations, and reporting across multiple entities.

Maintain and update the fixed asset register and insurance schedules.

Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, and management reporting packs.

Assist with year-end close processes, audit preparation, and ensure compliance with IFRS for SMEs.

Maintain organised and accessible financial records within Google Drive according to established filing structures.

Requirements • Diploma or Degree in Bookkeeping or Accounting (preferred). • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a full-function bookkeeping role, preferably managing accounts across multiple entities. • Demonstrated ability to maintain books up to trial balance and balance sheet level. • Proficiency in Sage Accounting and Sage HR; experience with QuickBooks would be advantageous. • Experience using SARS eFiling, including VAT, EMP201, EMP501, and corporate tax returns. • Knowledge of IFRS for SMEs would be beneficial. • Strong Excel skills, with excellent organisational and communication abilities.
