Senior Platform Engineer

For a challenging infrastructure and cloud project at a leading Swiss telecommunications company, we are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer with a strong focus on Linux, virtualisation, SDN and automation.

The focus is on building and operating an open-source-based private cloud platform / IaaS environment. We are looking for a technically strong individual who works hands-on in both the engineering and operation of complex platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, setup and further development of a private cloud/IaaS platform
• Engineering and operation of virtualisation environments with KVM, QEMU and libvirt
• Setup and operation of software-defined networking with OVN / Open vSwitch
• Automation of infrastructure and platform components with Terraform, Ansible, Python and Bash
• Participation in CI/CD processes as well as Git-based deployment and operational processes.
• Monitoring, logging and observability with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK or OpenSearch
• Analysis and resolution of incidents, as well as participation in problem and change management.
• Conducting integration, failover and acceptance tests
• Close collaboration with architecture, security, platform operations and other technical stakeholders
• Ensuring the stability, scalability, security, and performance of the platform

Requirements

• Extensive experience in Linux and system engineering
• Solid hands-on experience with KVM, QEMU and libvirt
• Experience with OVN and Open vSwitch in the field of software-defined networking
• Deep understanding of networking, especially L2/L3, routing, NAT, ACLs and network segmentation.
• Experience with private cloud, IaaS, virtualisation, or platform infrastructure
• Strong knowledge of automation and Infrastructure as Code, especially with Terraform and Ansible
• Scripting experience with Python and/or Bash
• Experience with CI/CD, Git and modern engineering processes
• Knowledge in the areas of observability, monitoring and logging
• Security understanding in the platform environment, e.g., hardening, IAM/RBAC, certificates, and secure configurations.
• Excellent German skills at C2 level and very good English skills at C1 level.
