About

As a Platform Engineer (m/f/d), you empower our software, AI, and data teams to operate their applications quickly, securely, and scalably in our hybrid cloud environment (Private Cloud / On-Prem Kubernetes). Your goal: to enable "You build it, you run it" for all teams.

Responsibilities

• You conceptualize and develop our central container platform (Kubernetes) and provide it as a self-service product.
• You automate the provisioning of infrastructure (compute, network, storage) using Terraform and Ansible. Manual interventions are taboo for you.
• You act as a technical mentor for junior colleagues and advise the development teams (Dev, AI, Big Data) on platform usage.
• You implement monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) to guarantee the stability of our scalable workloads.
• You build modern deployment pipelines and implement GitOps principles (e.g., with ArgoCD or Flux).

Requirements

• Completed university degree or comparable vocational training and at least 6 years of professional experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering.
• In-depth knowledge in container orchestration. You not only know how to use kubectl but also understand the K8s architecture, networking (CNI), storage (CSI), and security.
• Expert knowledge in Terraform (or OpenTofu). Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible is welcome, but our focus is on immutable infrastructure.
• You are proficient in at least one high-level scripting or programming language (ideally Python or Go) and are comfortable on the shell.
• Very good knowledge in operating Linux systems (kernel, networking, systemd), as this is the foundation of our clusters.
• Understanding of the requirements for AI modeling and Big Data workloads (GPU scheduling, high-performance storage).
• You have already gained experience in leading technical projects or driving architectural decisions in teams.

Team

The xPlatforms team at the CTO Defense Innovation Center provides experimental software development and IT laboratory environments for innovation units of the BWI, Bundeswehr, research partners, and industry. It enables hosting and housing for Bundeswehr-relevant technology projects and makes the ideas and principles of a consistent DevSecOps culture tangible for the military environment. We improve and accelerate digitalization and automation (in) the Bundeswehr by providing tools & technologies in the field of experimental software development. BwXDev is our experimental software development environment for the Bundeswehr. For this, we are looking for team players and pragmatic engineers with a hands-on mentality and a passion for exciting challenges in an agile environment.
