Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the Internal Developer Portal as a first-class product for developers.
- Partner with Product Management to define strategy, roadmap, and adoption of a centralized service catalog and self-service capabilities.
- Establish clear “Golden Paths” enabling teams to build, deploy, and operate software safely and efficiently while maintaining flexibility.
- Act as a key connector between platform engineering, architecture, security, and application teams to ensure cloud platform tooling is intuitive, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
- Improve developer velocity, onboarding efficiency, and platform consistency across the organization.
- Lead and grow a team of Platform Engineers, investing in coaching, technical excellence, and career development.
- Serve as a hands-on, player-coach leader valuing strong engineering fundamentals, continuous learning, and outcome-driven delivery.
Qualifications
- Experience leading internal platforms or developer-facing products treating developer experience as a core product capability.
- Strong understanding of modern software delivery practices including CI/CD, GitOps, and cloud-native platforms such as Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Internal Developer Portal ecosystem and tools such as Backstage, Port, or Cortex.
- Ability to build alignment and consensus across Security, SRE, Architecture, and Engineering leadership.
- Experience managing and developing teams across multiple locations and time zones.
- Comfortable partnering with Product Managers and delivery leads to prioritize work and drive predictable outcomes.
- Experience establishing AI-assisted development as a standard engineering capability embedded into developer workflows with defined ways of working.
- Continuous learner seeking opportunities to adopt new technologies and improve technical and business acumen.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in engineering roles including 5+ years leading and developing engineering teams with ability to build reliable, scalable platforms.
Skills and Experience
- Internal Developer Platforms and service catalogs (e.g. Backstage or similar frameworks).
- Cloud platforms and container orchestration (AWS preferred; Kubernetes and Docker).
- Infrastructure as Code and automation (Terraform or equivalent).
- Software development using languages such as TypeScript, Python, Java or Go.
- API and microservice design in distributed systems.
- DevOps and DevSecOps practices across the full SDLC.
- Observability concepts including metrics, logs, traces, and open standards such as OpenTelemetry.
- CI/CD tooling and developer workflows (e.g., GitHub, Jira, Confluence, pipeline orchestration tools).
- Technical documentation, including product requirements, high-level architecture and detailed design artifacts.
