Department Overview
The Presales Engineering Team plays a pivotal role in Motorola Solutions' Video business by focusing on the design, demonstration, and deployment of body cameras, in-car video systems, License Plate Readers (LPRs), and digital evidence management systems for Government and Public Safety customers.
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Presales Solutions Engineer responsible for managing presales opportunities and overseeing the implementation of complex projects. In this role, you will work independently and collaboratively with Public Safety teams, providing essential technical responses for budgetary, sole source, and competitive bids within set timelines. As the technical solution owner, you will analyze and design intricate solutions that cater to customer needs. Additionally, you will facilitate customer evaluations and demonstrate a range of Motorola Solutions products. You will report directly to the Presales Engineer Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical solution owner for budgetary, competitive, and sole source proposal responses.
- Assist in providing detailed technical responses to Requests for Proposal (RFP) and Requests for Information (RFI).
- Offer hardware and software recommendations based on diverse customer requirements.
- Prepare solutions descriptions and system configuration diagrams.
- Create a comprehensive bill of materials for software, hardware, and any essential third-party applications.
- Identify interface requirements and collaborate with system implementation teams for design solutions.
- Conduct in-depth customer-facing technical requirements discovery sessions, both virtually and in-person.
- Build and maintain relationships with sales teams, internal engineering, systems integration, proposals, pricing, and key technical subject matter experts.
- Work closely with customers and sales teams to facilitate product evaluations as needed.
- Deliver customer product training, both in-person and virtually.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Public Safety software application system implementation.
- Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of experience in Engineering, Sales, Public Safety, or Military backgrounds.
- Alternatively, 8+ years of relevant experience in Engineering, Sales, Public Safety, or Military roles.
- Experience in computer hardware sizing, configuration, and implementation.
- Proficient in TCP/IP computer networking and design.
- Ability to pass background checks and obtain security clearance as required by customers.
- Experience in writing and reading interface requirements.
- Background in Wireless Networking (WLAN) as well as LTE Network Modem/Router knowledge (experience with Sierra products is a plus).
- Basic understanding of License Plate Recognition (LPR) technologies.
- Technical writing skills with the ability to convey information clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Basic knowledge of Radio Voice Communications Networks and Motorola Solutions Public Safety Applications.
- Familiarity with virtual system implementation and design, covering both server and desktop virtualization.
- Willingness to work in high-security environments governed by the US Department of Justice's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy, requiring successful passage of an extensive fingerprint background check.
Salary Range
The target base salary range for this position is $80,000 -$120,000 USD. Pay within this range is contingent upon relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
