Position Overview
The Pressure Vessel Engineer is responsible for performing design calculations and supporting the development and manufacturing of pressure vessels. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards while supporting both project execution and ongoing product development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare design calculations for pressure vessels (e.g., shell and tube heat exchangers, flash tanks) in accordance with ASME Section VIII Div. 1 using PV Elite, Excel, and manual methods
- Provide design specifications to mechanical designers for pressure and non-pressure components
- Develop detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD, including materials, specifications, and fabrication requirements
- Coordinate registration of pressure vessels across Canadian jurisdictions to obtain CRNs in compliance with CSA B51
- Perform 3D modeling (e.g., Inventor) and FEA analysis to validate stress calculations and design integrity
- Ensure designs, documentation, and processes comply with ASME, CSA, and internal standards
- Support research and development initiatives by evaluating and validating new pressure vessel designs
- Participate in ASME audits and support compliance with regulatory requirements
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, production, and quality teams
- Support additional engineering activities as required by the Engineering Manager
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Member in good standing with a provincial engineering association (e.g., OIQ)
- 5–10 years of experience working with ASME codes in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Prior leadership or team coordination experience is considered an asset
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of ASME Section VIII Div. I design code, as well as Sections II and IX
- Experience with 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with refrigeration, chiller, or HVAC systems is considered an asset
- Familiarity with ASHRAE, ANSI, and CSA standards is beneficial
- Exposure to electrical systems is an asset
