Our client, a prestigious architectural firm renowned for its innovative and sustainable designs, is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Architect to lead their sustainability initiatives. Based in **Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, ZA**, this role is pivotal in shaping the future of environmentally conscious architecture. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and overseeing the execution of groundbreaking sustainable building projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep expertise in green building principles, materials science, energy efficiency, and relevant certification standards (e.g., LEED, BREEAM). You will lead a talented team of architects and designers, fostering a collaborative environment focused on innovation and environmental responsibility.
Key responsibilities include: Leading the design and development of sustainable architectural projects from concept to completion. Integrating cutting-edge sustainable design strategies, including passive design, renewable energy systems, and water conservation. Ensuring all designs comply with relevant building codes, regulations, and environmental standards. Conducting site analyses and feasibility studies for sustainable development opportunities. Selecting and specifying environmentally friendly and high-performance building materials. Managing project budgets and timelines, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency. Mentoring and guiding junior architects and design team members. Collaborating with engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure successful project delivery. Staying current with advancements in sustainable technologies, materials, and design practices. Representing the firm in client meetings, presentations, and public forums related to sustainable design. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and industry partners. Promoting the firm's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. We are looking for a candidate with a Master's degree in Architecture, a professional architectural license, and a minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in architectural design, with a strong focus on sustainable building practices. Proven experience as a lead architect on significant sustainable projects is essential. A strong portfolio showcasing innovative and award-winning sustainable designs is required. Excellent leadership, communication, and client management skills are crucial. Proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp) and sustainability analysis tools is expected. Experience with green building certification processes (LEED AP, BREEAM Assessor) is highly desirable.
