About the role

Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Chemical Process Engineer to join their pioneering, fully remote research and development team. This senior-level position is crucial for driving innovation in chemical process design, optimization, and scale-up for novel chemical manufacturing. You will lead complex engineering projects, develop state-of-the-art process simulations, and contribute significantly to the conceptualization and implementation of efficient, safe, and sustainable chemical production methodologies. Your expertise will be vital in analyzing chemical reactions, designing unit operations, and developing robust process control strategies. This role demands a deep understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mass transfer, and reaction kinetics, applied within the context of industrial chemical synthesis. You will be responsible for conducting feasibility studies, evaluating new technologies, and optimizing existing processes to enhance yield, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact. As a Principal Engineer, you will mentor junior engineers, collaborate closely with R&D scientists and external partners, and contribute to technical publications and intellectual property development. This is a remote-first position, requiring exceptional self-discipline, communication skills, and the ability to manage complex projects autonomously. You will utilize advanced process simulation software and modeling tools to create and validate process designs. The successful candidate will possess a strong track record of innovation, a commitment to safety and sustainability, and the ability to translate laboratory-scale findings into viable industrial processes. Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes. Conduct detailed process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software. Develop PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams) and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams). Perform mass and energy balance calculations for various chemical operations. Analyze and optimize reaction kinetics, separation processes, and unit operations. Evaluate and implement new process technologies to improve efficiency and sustainability. Ensure process designs comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Mentor and guide junior chemical engineers and technical staff. Collaborate with research scientists, project managers, and cross-functional teams. Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and project proposals. Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, R&D, or a similar role. Extensive experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS, ChemCAD). Strong theoretical knowledge and practical application of chemical engineering principles. Proven experience in process design, scale-up, and optimization. Familiarity with HAZOP studies and process safety management. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with experience presenting technical information. Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities. Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote, collaborative environment. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of chemical manufacturing, contributing your expertise from Gombe, Gombe, NG .
